School Safety

Educating children on the importance of traffic safety has been a key AAA public service for more than 87 years.

In 1920, AAA initiated the national School Safety Patrol movement. Today, AAA clubs sponsor 550,000 children serving as patrols in the United States.

School's Open - Drive Carefully!

When school has started, motorists need a reminder that children are part of the traffic mix. AAA's annual School's Open - Drive Carefully! program uses colorful graphics and a wide variety of products and publications to deliver this important safety message.

AAA Scholarship Programs help children enter the adult world by subsidizing education in the areas of automotive repair.

AAA was largely responsible for the passing of the 1956 Federal-aid Highway Act, the most ambitious public works program in the nation's history. It followed on the president's proposal to spend $50 billion on a 10-year highway construction program, the basis for the establishment of the Highway Trust Fund.
