Since it was launched in 1945, AAA's National School Traffic Safety Poster Program and Senior High Communication Contest has brought out the creativity in young people through a medium that saves lives.
AAA Poster Program
Now in its 60th year, the program continues its primary aim of reducing traffic crashes, the No. 1 cause of death for children ages 3 to 14. Thousands of dollars in awards are presented to children in grades K-8 who are selected through a judging process as the Grand, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Judge's level winners. There are three grade-level divisions: K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Award winning posters are reproduced nationally in poster calendar sets and AAA publications such as TourBook guides.
The Poster Program encourages students to think about and learn essential traffic safety practices as they create visuals to illustrate the concepts. Further, bringing this integral element of every child's daily life into the classroom provides students the opportunity to share and discuss experiences and ideas.

Senior High Communication Contest
Since 1996, high school students have submitted safety messages in graphic arts, written or audiovisual format in addition to hand-drawn poster art. Nearly $20,000 in award money is available, including three $5,000 scholarships or savings bonds, one for each media format. This program provides an opportunity to educate an age group that is significantly over-represented in traffic crashes.
