Funding

In 2000, Congress passed landmark legislation that will help ensure the continued safety and efficiency of the nation's air transportation systems. The Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century -- AIR-21 -- supports the principle that user fees charged to air travelers should be fully invested in improving and modernizing the nation's air transportation infrastructure.

AAA was a strong advocate for AIR-21 and, in particular, supported the efforts to ensure all revenue in the aviation trust fund will be invested in the aviation system.

More recently, AAA supported enactment of new security fees to help finance an overhaul of airport and aircraft security. As the largest leisure travel agency in the nation, AAA has an obligation to help restore travelers' confidence in the nation's transportation systems. The changes are an important step toward bringing Americans back to travel. AAA will continue to monitor airline and airport security and funding issues.
